It’s that time of year! Fireworks, music, carnivals, and more. The Nation’s birthday is just around the corner and there are several activities and celebrations going on in Central Iowa, to celebrate! Check out the list below. If I am missing something, make sure you let me know and we will get it added!

Fourth of July-2


1. Prairie Meadows

Date: July 3rd at dusk, following live racing

2. Adventureland 

Date: July 4th at 9:40 pm

For in park guests only!


1. Ames Fourth of July Parade

Date: July 4th

Location: Downtown Ames

Bill Riley Talent Competition 9 am – 11 am

2. Independence Day Fireworks

Date: July 3rd at 10 pm

Location: Reiman Gardens


Date: Sunday, July 12th at 10 pm

They will be shot off at Prairie Ridge park

Fireworks will be shot off on the final day of Ankeny Summeriest!


Date: July 17th & July 18th at 9:30 pm

They will be shot off after the Clive Festival 40th Anniversary Celebration

Des Moines

1. Yankee Doodle Pops

Date: Thursday, July 2nd at 8:30 pm

Location: West Terrace of the State Capitol

Turner Center Jazz Orchestra begins at 6:30 pm

The evening ends with the Des Moines Symphony’s 22nd annual firework display

2. Iowa Cubs Game

Two fireworks show … July 3rd & 4th

The fireworks will begin immediately after the 7:08 pm ball games

3. Good Guys Heartland Nationals 

Date: July 4th at 9:30 pm

Location: Iowa State Fairgrounds


1. Urbandale 4th of July Celebration 

Date: July 2nd – July 4th

 Fireworks on July 4th at 10 pm

Location: Walker Johnston Park

Do NOT miss the Annual Urbandale Celebration which includes a parade, carnival rides, yummy food, music and a firework display! Carnival rides are located at Lions Park in Urbandale.

2. Independence Day at Living History Farms 

Date: July 4th; 9 am – 4 pm

Living History Farms will be hosting tons of games for the entire family! Do not miss the 1875-rules baseball game! Check out the entire details here!


Date: July 4th at dusk

Location: Centennial Park

Lots of fun and activities scheduled, including a parade at 2 pm that goes through Historic Downtown and ends at Centennial Park, where there will be inflatables, food, and live music!

West Des Moines

1. Jordan Creek Towncenter

Date: June 28th at dusk

The fireworks will be shot off after the “Live at the Creek” Summer concert series

2. Raccoon River Park

Date: July 4th at 9:45 pm

3. Valley Junction – Independence Day Street Celebration  

Date: July 3rd at 5 pm – 11 pm

This evening will feature live music, food and fun for the entire family. The celebration will be held in Railroad Park and the 100 block of 5th Street after the completion of the West Des Moines Independence Day Parade. Beverage garden and food vendors from 5:00 – 11:00 pm, live music, FREE admission, and kids activities.

4. Independence Day Parade 

Date: July 3rd at 5:15 pm

Location: Starts at Valley High School and ends in Valley Junction. Then, enjoy the Valley Junction Independence Day Street Celebration!

5. Discount Swim at Holiday Park & Valley View Aquatic Center

Date: July 4th; 12 pm – 6 pm

Discounted price! $3.00 per person!

Windsor Heights

Date: July 4th at 10 pm

Location: Colby Park

Windsor Heights holds a huge celebration each year! This year it will begin at 1 pm at Colby Park and will include face painting, inflatables, bingo, live music, and more! There will be food and a beer garden 2:30 – 9:30 pm. For complete details check here!
