Stop by for breakfast with the Ankeny Fire Department. This free event is open to the public, voluntary goodwill donations will be collected, proceeds to benefit the St. Florian Fire & Burn Foundation.

Sunday, October  7; 2 to 5 p.m. at 200 S James Street, Grimes

Wednesday, October 10; 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fire Station 38, 10225 NW 62nd Ave, Johnston

Saturday, October 13; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station 39, 6373 Merle Hay Road, Johnston

Join the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department for their annual Fire Prevention Week Open House! National Fire Prevention Week is October 7-13, 2018. To ensure the safety of you and your family, be sure you have an escape plan because “Every Second Counts.”

The Open Houses will include a variety of educational hands-on activities for all ages and allows you to see the equipment and talk to the Fire/EMS personnel about fire safety. And, the kids will have the chance to use of the fire hoses. The firefighters will be handing out plastic fire helmets, stickers and coloring books for the kids.

Fire Safety Day 

Monday, October 22; 10 a.m. to Noon at the Urbandale Public Library 

October is Fire Safety Month and it’s time to talk about fire safety with the Urbandale Public Library, Blank Children’s Hospital, and the Urbandale Fire Department. The Fire Safety House will be on hand to offer hands-on learning to prepare children for the unexpected and frightening experience of a fire. Drop in between 10 AM and 12:00 Noon to explore the fire safety house and talk to members of the Urbandale Fire Department. Target Age: 6 – 12 (siblings welcome). No Registration.

West Des Moines

Pancake Breakfast and Open House – Fire Department Fundraiser

Saturday, October 13; 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Fire Station 17, 1401 Railroad Avenue, West Des Moines

Enjoy a great breakfast, tour the fire station, see the fire trucks, try the kids’ firefighter challenge, learn how to use a fire extinguisher, see the Mercy One helicopter, and more! Adults $5.00, kids $3.00, kids under three eat free!
