Fall Festivals in Central Iowa 2017

The leaves will begin changing colors and temperatures will be dropping, which means fall! I have create a list of Fall Festivals going on in central Iowa. If I am missing your favorite, please let me know.

Living History Farms

Bring your blanket and enjoy an evening horse and wagon ride this fall at Living History Farms! Guests meet at the Murray Conference Center to board an open-air wagon pulled by Percheron draft horses or draft mules. Take a ride through the fields and country roads of Living History Farms with autumn in the air. After your ride, join other guests for light refreshments and relaxation while watching day change to night at Living History Farms! Advanced tickets are required!

Pufferbilly Days 

September 7-10 

Boone, Iowa

This four-day community festival fills the streets with tons of awesome events and entertainment. Kids games, carnival, fireworks show, pie eating contests, and much more!

Apple Festival at Penoach Winery 

September 16

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Horse and wagon rides, face painting and kids entertainment, 12 plus vendors featuring a variety of crafts, food, and produce, including Dallas County Orchard, Picket Fence Creamery. Food from Brewer Family Farms. Free wine samples. Hot apple wine by the cup.

Beaverdale Fall Festival 

September 15 – 16 

Holy Trinity Church had been hosting an annual event each September featuring a raffle, carnival rides, food, talent show, beer tent and a road run. During the 1980s, the Beaverdale merchants and Holy Trinity decided to combine their efforts, leading to an expanded, single weekend of neighborhood fun. The parade became a joint effort of the two groups and served as a rallying point, as they began to unify their resources, advertising and planning efforts. Carnival, parade, games, horse rides, live music, food, drink and much more.

Apple & Pumpkin Fest at Will’s Family Orchard 

Saturday, September 23 (9 – 6 p.m.) & Sunday, September 24 (Noon – 6 p.m.)

Saturday, September 30 (9 – 6 p.m.) & Sunday, October 1 (Noon – 6 p.m.)

Fresh, handmade foods, such as apple cider donuts, caramel apples, Queens apple dessert & sliced apple pie & more. There is no admission fee to visit the store. Live music and kids activities.

World Food & Music Festival

September 15 – 17 

The 2017 Festival features Cuisine from Around the World! Live Entertainment  –  Cooking Demonstrations. $1 tastes/all entrees $6 or less. Free to attend.

Zooktoberfest at the Blank Park Zoo 

September 21

5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Zoo Brew is back with an Oktoberfest twist! Come out and enjoy live music, the best seasonal beers, Oktoberfest-style food, pretzel necklaces and of course a handful of your Zoo animal friends.

Des Moines Oktoberfest!

September 22 & 23

GA tickets will be $10/night at the door. Includes commemorative Oktoberfest mug. Bring it back Saturday for $5 admission! RAIN OR SHINE. Plenty of tented bier gardens. Live music, beer, and lots of fun.

Herfst Feest (Harvest Fest)

September 23rd

7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Pella, Iowa 

Celebrate all the things fall at Herfst Feest {Harvest Fest} in downtown Pella! Enjoy wine walk, live music, great works of art at Art in the Park, 5K Color Blast Run, shopping, home brew sampling, salsa and baking contests, artisan demonstrations at the Historical Village as well as great activities for children.

Living History Farms

Spend the afternoon in our 1875 town celebrating all things apple! Try your hand at stirring the copper kettle of apple butter and take your turn cranking the cider press. Children’s games and crafts round out the fun. Fresh local apples and other goodies will be on sale in the Visitor Center. 

Illumifest at WDM City School Campus 

September 23 

4 to 9 p.m. 

West Des Moines City Hall 

Enjoy inflatables & games, food vendors, free hot air balloon rides, free demonstrations and exhibits by Chinese Association of Iowa, free lantern making, “Royal Promenade” around the pond with Little Princess Parties, free outdoor movie Beauty and the Beast, fireworks and more!

Fall Frenzy

Sunday, October 8 

1 to 4 p.m. 

Urbandale Parks & Recreation

This event is hosted by Polk County Conservation, Friends of the Parks and Urbandale Parks and Rec. Located at Giovannetti Shelter in Urbandale.

Bring your family for a day of Fall fun! Come explore Walker Johnston Park and all the amenities it has to offer. We will have a scavenger hunt, outdoor games, crafts and live critters.

Covered Bridge Festival in Madison County 

October 14 & 15 

Madison County Bridge Festival! Help celebrate the bridges. Crafts, foods, activities, entertainment, antiques, and guided tours of the famous covered bridges! This festival is for everyone!

Live entertainment, apple pies and dumplings, corn pit, animals, jumping pillow, horse-drawn hayrides, pumpkin patch, paint pumpkins, spin art, giant slides, and so much more.

Pumpkin Fest at Center Grove Orchard

October 14 & 15 

An entire weekend dedicated to all things pumpkin! Come indulge in sweet and savory items from the Country Store, pick the perfect pumpkin in our Pumpkin Patch, and see our Pumpkin Princess!
