Polk City Fire Department 

Saturday, October 7

7 to 11 a.m.

309 E Van Dorn Street

Join us for our annual Fire Prevention Week Pancake Breakfast and Open House. Come down to the station for food and fun. In addition to the pancakes and sausages, we will have fire truck rides for the whole family!

Free-will donations will be accepted, and all donations from the day’s events will go to support the families of Charlie Bishop and Ross Mulhbauer.

Ankeny Fire Department 

Wednesday, October 11

6 to 8 p.m.

120 NW Ash Drive, Ankeny

Join the Ankeny Fire Department for their annual Fire Prevention Week Open House!

The Open House will include a variety of educational hands-on activities for all ages. Residents can learn more about the power of fire prevention and technologies available to protect their own families from fire. Activities will include: fire safety house, a junior firefighter challenge course, a junior firefighter maze, spraying a fire hose, trying on a firefighter’s gear, using a fire extinguisher, identifying hazards in the fire department’s hazard house and a variety of other interactive fire safety displays.

Johnston/Grimes Fire Department

National Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14, 2017. To ensure the safety of you and your family, be sure you have an escape plan because “Every Second Counts.” The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department is having a few open houses for you to see their equipment and talk to them about fire safety.

Pleasant Hill Fire Department

Come for a special story time at the Fire Department during Fire Safety and Prevention Week.


West Des Moines Fire Department

Saturday, October 14

7 to 11 a.m. 

1401 Railroad Ave, WDM 

In observance of Fire Prevention Week, we invite you to join us for tasty pancakes, sausages and beverages.

Cost for adults is $5.00, children $3.00 and children under 3 years old eat free. You can also tour the fire station and fire trucks. There will be activities for the kids and the Mercy One Helicopter will make a guest landing. This is a fundraiser for the fire department. Money raised will go towards training, new equipment and fire prevention materials.

Erin is a reliable resource and stepping stone for women and families to find support and make connections within our community. She wants families to feel confident to reach out and ask for help and advice to get pointed in the right direction. She enjoys traveling and exploring with her two children in tow!
