The Brenton Arboretum is a beautifully designed tree and prairie landscape, nationally recognized for its botanical collection and research contributions to the diversity and sustainability of Iowa’s landscape and beyond. The arboretum’s tree collection and 148-acre oasis in the quickly-expanded greater Des Moines area are open to everyone to experience the wonder of nature. Founded with the belief we all benefit from connecting with nature, Buz Brenton and his family created the arboretum so people can find joy in walking and learning among our trees and prairie. The arboretum’s O’Brien Nature Play area, miles of trails, streams, and ponds offer families countless opportunities to explore, have fun, and learn about the world around us.
