Waukee Parks & Recreation provides many programs throughout the year that appeal to participants of all ages. The Department offers leagues, activities, tours, special events and much more! Waukee Parks & Recreation strives to give all residents and visitors fun and recreational experiences at affordable costs, connecting the community and enhancing the quality of life through recreational opportunities with tradition, excellence, and leadership. Registration opens Sunday, March 1.

 

Summer Celebration Day Camp (ages 5-12)

Various weeks in August: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

It’s the end of summer but there is still so much to celebrate! This all-day camp will provide exciting activities for kids including field trips to Omaha, an Iowa Cubs baseball game, Ft. Dodge, Camp Dodge and more. Please pack a sack lunch and a water bottle; afternoon snacks will be provided. Campers will be notified prior to the start of camp of daily activities so they can dress appropriately. More session details are available online. Participants will be transported by Parks & Recreation staff during the camp. Children 5-6 years old will be required to bring a booster seat.

Fee: $155

 

All-Star Sports Camp (ages 5-10)

Various weeks in June & July: 8:30-11 a.m.

This half-day camp is perfect for any sports enthusiast. Each day, participants will be engaged in activities including soccer, flag football, disc golf, kickball, capture the flag, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, lacrosse, yoga and other classic physical education activities.

Fee: $50

 

Art in the Park (ages 5-10)

Various weeks in June & July: 8:30-11 a.m. & 1-3:30 p.m.

It’s time to get artistic! Artists will create a variety of age-appropriate masterpieces to take home daily. Participants will also focus on a group public art piece to be installed at a City building. We may get messy, so artists should wear appropriate clothing.

Fee: $50

 

Youth in the Parks (grades 5-10)

Various weeks in July: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

This week-long service-learning camp gives participants a chance to learn about community betterment by volunteering at various locations in Waukee and surrounding areas. The camp consists of morning volunteer activities, while the afternoons are filled with fun field trips. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch each day for this all-day camp, and they will be notified prior to the start of the camp of daily activities so they can dress appropriately. Participants will be transported by Parks & Recreation staff during the camp.

Fee: $105

 

Super Snackers (ages 7-13)

Various weeks in July: 10:30 a.m.-noon & 1-2:30 p.m.

Waukee’s next top chef might be in your own house — let us help you find out! Chefs will learn new, fun and healthy summer snack ideas they can make any time of the year. At the end of each class, each chef will be able to sample their creations and may be able to teach you a thing or two! Please notify the Parks & Recreation Department of any known food allergies when registering for this class.

Fee: $42

 

Splish-Splash Camp (ages 8-13)

Various days in June & July: noon-4:45 p.m.

Cool off this summer and travel to three Des Moines Metro Area aquatic centers. Make sure to pack sunscreen, a towel, goggles, and snack money. Participants will be transported by Parks & Recreation staff during the camp.

Fee: $35

 

Explore the Outdoors and More (ages 5-10)

Various weeks in June & July: 8-11 a.m. & 1-4 p.m.

Get away from the electronics and back into nature! This camp will include nature play in different parks and creek beds, activities that help children relate to natural elements and a field trip to the Kuehn Conservation Center. Enjoy an exciting week of nature, fun, and learning. Campers will be notified prior to the start of the camp of daily activities so they can dress appropriately. Participants will be transported by Parks & Recreation staff during the camp. Children 5-6 years old will be required to bring a booster seat.

Fee: $52

 

Summer Fun Camp (ages 8-13)

July: 12:30-4:45 p.m.

Join us for an action-packed week of summer fun. Participants in this camp will enjoy four days of field trips with destinations including an aquatic center, indoor and outdoor activity centers, and much more! The other day will be spent playing games and activities in the park for a total of five days of camp with lots of activities. Campers will be notified prior to the start of the camp of Monday’s activity and will get to collectively vote on the remaining camp schedule. Participants will be transported by Parks & Recreation staff during camp.

Fee: $75
