Climb Iowa

Send your kids on a rock climbing adventure! Check out Climb Iowa’s unique camps will engage your child’s mind and body while keeping them active and teaching them new skills. Climb Iowa camps will introduce young adventurers to rock climbing. Children will learn about trust, teamwork and problem solving while developing their rock climbing skills through interactive games and activities.

Kid’s Camp (ages 8 to 13 years): 3 days; 9 a,m, to 4:30 p.m.; $155 for 3 days

Kinder Camp (ages 4 to 7 years): 2 days; 9 a.m. to Noon; $70 for 2 days 

Courage League Sports 

Over the course of the the Summer, Courage League Sports will offer a wide variety of Summer Camps for kids of all ages. Registration to deadline is June 1. Camps are broken down by Cubs/Tigers ($25 per day) and Lions/Panthers ($59 per day). Themes include gymnastics & field games, basketball & music, soccer & fantasy games, all sports and music & movement and more.

Toddler Camp (2-5 years): Monday – Thursday; 9 to 10 a.m.

Tigers Camp (6-9 years): Monday – Thursday; 9 to 10 a.m.

Lions Camp (10 to 13 years): Monday – Thursday; 9 to 11 a.m.

Panthers Camp (14+ years): Monday – Thursday 1 to 11 a.m.

Farrell’s Martial Arts

Daily schedules will include: Games, crafts, outside activities, martial arts classes tailored to the skill level of the student, field trips on Thursdays and lots of FUN!

June 4-August 10; Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Select the weeks you want to attend. You do not need to be a current Farrell’s student to participate!

Lifetime Fitness 

You do not have to be a member of Lifetime, to sign-up for their amazing Summer camps! Camps are available for ages 4 to 12 years. 

Mid Iowa Gymnastics 

Mid Iowa Gymnastics is offering several clinics and camps this summer. Take a look at all the options which include Friendship Camp, Superhero Camp and more. Prices start at $90 for non-members and go up. 

Prairie Life Fitness 

School ages camps are educational and fun for children ages 3 to 12 years of age. They offer full day camps with fun themed weeks including Pirates Week, Spy Week, Everything Disney Week and more. If you are not a member guests can purchase daily passes at the front desk at $6 per day for children under 13, in addition to the camp charge. $175 per full week.

Sapphire Gymnastics 

Discovery Kids Club camps are filled with reading, field trips, swimming, outdoor games and educational time. Camps are available Monday through Friday and can drop-off as early as 7 a.m. and pick-up as late as 5:30 p.m. Perfect for working parents! Camps are for children 5 years of age or older and cost $170 per week. Themes include Icky Sticky, Water Wonders, Upcycle, Mad Scientist, and more.

Skate North 

Sign your children up for beginner skate lessons this summer at Skate North. Open to children ages 5-12. $45 for each 5 days class. To reserve a spot, call 515-238-1690.

Triad Gymnastics 

There are a lot of great options for children 5 to 12 years of age. Each week includes three field trips including swimming every Wednesday, gym time, age-appropriate themed activities, and fun on a huge inflatable slip ‘n slide. They offer full and half day care.

Full Day: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; $45 per day or $195 per week 

Half Day: 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. OR 12:30 to 6 p.m.; $23 per day

Your local Greater Des Moines YMCA offers several Each YMCA provides different types, dates, times and themes of camp. 

Traditional Day Camp: An entire week of camp for children kindergarten through 6th grade. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with core programming offered 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. $150 week for YMCA members, $195 week for non-members. 

Preschool Camps: These camps are suited for children ages 3 to 5 years of age. They are offere 9 a.m. to Noon. The Waukee location offers an afternoon option, 1 to 4 p.m. for children ages 4 to 6 years. $60 per week for YMCA members, $100 week for non-members. 

Specialty Camps: These camps provide opportunities for campers to explore specific topics and areas of interest including Camp Chef, Planet Animal and more. Availiabel for children kindergarten through 6th grade. 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. $190 per week for YMCA members, $235 per week for non-members. 

Outdoorsy Camps 

Blank Park Zoo 

Sign your child up for a Summer Safari Camp and the Blank Park Zoo. There are weekly themed camps available starting in June through August. Camps are avialble for children ages 3 to 12 years of age and run Monday through Friday.

They offer half day and full day opportunities. Half Day camps are $90 per week for members, $130 per week for non-members. Full Day camps are $180 per week for members, $260 per week for non-members. 

Camp Fire Heart of Iowa 

Camp Fire Heart of Iowa offers many different day and overnight camp options in the Des Moines, Ames,  and Boone area, as well as surrounding communities. Offering programs for children in 1st -12th grade, Camp Fire offers a variety of themed options to get your child to truly experience summer! Click the link to see our many options. Central College Sustainability

In July, Central will once again host a series of summer day camps for 8-12 year olds. Led by college professors and students, each camp will introduce some aspect of sustainability through hands on activities, field trips, and fun competitions. These camps fill up fast, so register now to insure you have a place. Three week themes include Wild Iowa Camp, Positive Energy Camp and Fun with Food Camp. Learn more and register today! $180 

Center Grove Orchard

Attend Farm Camp at Center Grove Orchard! Farm Camp is a week-long summer camp that offers an opportunity to educate children about farm life while forming friendships and developing a love for farming! Campers will have hands-on fun. Designed for children ages 6 to 12 years. There are two one-week sessions available. $250/per week. Learn about all the fun your child will experience!

Holton Homestead 

Fun and educational,  hands on, chemical free gardening camp for children.  This is a 10 week camp, Friday mornings from 9am to 11am.  June 15th through August 17th 2018

Bring your children to our homestead to learn all about growing their own food. Topics will include: growing seedlings, transplanting, direct sow, pruning, when to plant, when to harvest, plant identification, gardening tools & proper use, natural fertilizer, seed saving, and garden related crafts. $200 per child. 

Living History Farms 

Full and half day options available all summer long. Full day camp hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and half day hours are 9 a.m. to Noon OR 1 to 4 p.m. Options available for children kindergarten through 8th grade. Prices based off of age and what session you register for. Monte had a blast last summer.

Polk County Conservation 

The Polk County Conservation offers several different Summer Day camps for different age levels.

Easter Seals of Iowa 

Camp Sunnyside is where children and adults with and without disabilities can enjoy canoeing, an animal farm, horseback riding, archery, nature trails and much more!

Religious Camps

Central Presbyterian Church

Rolling River Rampage Vacation Bible School is right around the corner! Children from kindergarten to 5th grade (as of 2017-18 school year) are invited to raft with Romper the river otter and Greg the Paddle Captain on this week-long outdoor adventure that includes cool music, exciting science, creative crafts, fun recreation, memorable Bible stories and delicious snacks. The fun runs from Monday through Friday, June 11–15, 201 , from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Central Presbyterian Church. Cost is $30.00 per child for the entire week. Scholarships are available. CYC – Catholic Youth Camp 

Catholic Youth Camp is a co-ed, sleep away summer camp. Each day campers will be able to participate in 3-4 outdoor activities, along with CYC programming and weekly staples like a talent show, adoration and reconciliation, camp fire, carnival night, water fun day, dances, concerts, and more! For children in grades 3rd to 12th grade.

Gan Shalom 

Gan Shalom will offer fun weekly sessions including Incredible Insects, Dinosaur Dig, Down by the Sea, Carnival Time and much more. Camps are offered for children ages 2 to 4 years. Half day and part time options are available.


Faith Lutheran Church

Faith Lutheran Church is calling all Heroes!

Join them for a superhero adventure each evening from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 10 to 14, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue, Clive Iowa!

At this free event, open to all children in our community from those entering pre-kindergarten (age 4) to those entering 5th grade this fall, children are the superheroes, learning that God’s Heroes have heart, courage, wisdom, hope and power! Register today at

Lutheran Church of Hope: Vacation Bible School 

Join Lutheran Church of Hope for a week of action-packed fun! It’s a time both kids and volunteers won’t want to miss. Through large group worship, music, skits, crafts, outdoor activities and lessons, children will explore five awesome stories from the Bible for children to learn and experience in memorable ways. Art, Music + Science 

Camp Brainiac 

Join Camp Brainiac for two great summer camp options including Mystery Week and Super Hero Week. Both camps are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily located at the Johnston Lion’s Club. To learn more about each camp click link above! $250/per week.

Des Moines Art Center 

There are tons of classes available for all ages. Fun themes include Patterns Gone Wild, Wild Animal Posters, Wild Hair Portraits and more. Camps are available for children as young as 5 years of age.

Des Moines Community Playhouse

There are camps available for all ages starting from Kindergarten through grade 10. Camps are grouped by age level so children can learn according to their developmental needs. Camps are offered in June, July and August. This summer, due to major renovations at the playhouse the majority of summer camps will be held at West Des Moines Christina Church in West Des Moines. Des Moines Performing Arts 

Spend your time this summer in Des Moines at a week long day camp invites young artists to explore their talents and skills as musical

theater actors within an original musical production. Each participant is guaranteed a role, with roles being assigned on the first day via an audition process. Young artists are invited to spend their week rehearsing and participating in theater workshops, as well as making new friends along the way.

By Friday afternoon, the students will be ready to take the stage with confidence. When they perform in the original musical – complete with professional lighting and costumes—they’ll transport the audience into the world of heroes, villains, and sidekicks! No previous experience is necessary; all levels are welcome.

Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Des Moines Social Club

Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden 

Spend your summer in Des Moines at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. A lot of great options are available starting in June through August. Themes include Outdoor Explorers, Theater Sprouts, Budding Chefs, and more. Camps are designed for children ages 6 to 10 years of age. Camps run Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Price is $210 per week for members, $250 per week for non-members. 

Passion Studios

  • Keys Kids Camp
    Come PLAY music this summer! Learn about the keyboard, play songs, learn how to improvise, write your own music, learn about great musicians and play fun games! Monday June 11th – Friday June 15th, 9:00 to 10 a.m. daily. No experience needed. Performance on Saturday, June 16th at 12:00pm. This camp is for ages 5 to 7 years old. $100 for 5 days. 


  • Making Music Camp; 10 to 11:30 a.m. 
    Have you always wanted to play the piano? Play classical, jazz, blues and accompaniment piano pieces with both hands, learn about other instruments, play awesome musical games and make new friends. Performance June 23rd at 12:00 pm. This camp is for ages 8 to 11 years old. $180 for 5 days.

Forest School

For ages 1 1/2 to 3 years of age. June 4 – 8; 9:30 a.m. to Noon

Craving fresh air and a fresh perspective? We’re teaming up with Hike it Baby Des Moines to bring you outdoor play and adventure in a brand new way. Start each morning with a short child-led group hike where you’ll trek together at a toddler’s pace to explore sticks and rocks, touch the trees, and look for bugs. Rest tired legs as you listen to a story highlighting the day’s theme. And finish with a series of daily toddler-friendly nature activities that will immerse your curious learner in the beauty and wonder of the world around them. Each day features a new location around the Des Moines metro so you and your little naturalist can explore a variety of landscapes you’ll want to visit again and again for outdoor family adventures. A one-year Hike it Baby Membership is included giving you access to future hikes and community excursions. $117 for Member; $127 for non-member.

Dress for blissful mess and a variety of weather conditions. We’ll be making mud pies, scooping up pond water, soaking up sun prints, sailing juice-box boats, and more.

Piano Camp 

For ages 5 to 7 years. June 4 -8; 10 to 11:45 a.m.

Spend your summer in Des Moines practicing piano. His fingers will be itching to weave his own tales at our magical golden piano each day of this truly one-of-a-kind summer music camp. You’ll be amazed at how quickly and easily your young musician begins to unfold great-sounding music at the piano as we unlock real musical strategies all week long. This camp is the perfect bridge between Kindermusik and our piano curriculum. By week’s end, she’ll have created her very own musical storybook to share, and you’ll watch her beam with confidence as she plays in our Camp Cookie Concert. Peek in along the way each day as you’re invited into class for the final 15 minutes of Sharing Time. Member $175; Non-member $185.

Wee & Me Yoga: Yoga in the Garden 

For ages 2 to 6 years; May 22, 24, 29 & 31; 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Watch your little Yogi’s eyes light up at the beginning of each class as he rings a Tibetan bell to greet the class and focus attention. Together you’ll float through breath practice using scarf play to increase your awareness and enhance relaxation. Then find your rhythm with an active Yoga march – a series of “postures in motion” to warm up your bodies. Rest and read a story that introduces the theme for your posture practice and finish strong with an invitation to find your mats for a series of 10-12 yoga postures (or variations of traditional postures) before a short rest and farewell song. Member $74, non-member $84. 

Real Food 4 Kids

Real Food 4 Kids is offering three different times to take summer camp. Perfect for ages 11 to 17 years or ages 8 to 12 years. Children will learn to make their own breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. 100% hands-on cooking! You can take all 4 classes for $145 or pay $40 per class. 

Science Center of Iowa 

Science Center of Iowa is another great option for a Des Moines Summer Camp in 2018. They offer a lot of options for all ages starting at pre-k through 8th grade. Morning camps run 9 a.m. to Noon  and afternoon camps run 1 to 4 p.m. $105 per week member, $125 per week non-member. For old children, no half-day option is available. $210 per week member, $250 per week non-member. 

Tallgrass Theatre Company Seedlings Children’s Theatre Programs

The Seedlings program offers “Play in a Week” camps, acting workshops, and creative drama workshops for youth during the summer. Seedlings provides families an affordable, fun creative outlet for children to express themselves and expand their knowledge of the arts. Camps and workshops are held in Valley Junction in West Des Moines.
