Des Moines Beyond 4 Walls

I believe in providing as many resources and information to parents. Central Iowa is filled with hundred of events, activities, programs, festivals, free things, and more. As a parent it can be overwhelming to keep track of all the fun that is available to us.

Des Moines Parent provides a ton of resources including:

The one thing we were missing was a place for parents to go to ask questions and receive a response almost immediately. A place where parents can go to leave a short blurb about their personal experience. An outlet to be more connected with other parents in our community.

Des Moines Beyond 4 Walls was created by Dara Green.  At the time she was a mother of a 2 year old and newborn. She would always hear of neat things people were doing with their kids, but not originally being from Des Moines, she felt lost and out of the loop. She realized that there was not a central place to find family friendly activities. In addition to being a new mother of two and having day job, she knew she did not have time to create a website or make a blog, which requires a ton of work. The thought of the idea of crowd sourcing this aspect of parenting by making a Facebook group where everyone shared what was going on around town. The simple idea of take a little, give a little! Often places would post flyers, or something on their own website, but this information was only reaching a handful of people. By having Des Moines Beyond 4 Walls community be the eye and ears of the town for family friendly events, everyone wins! They are supporting local organizations and helping others get beyond the four walls of their living room. Over the years, the group has grown from a few of her friends (that she made in the group) to over 6,000 members. There are now many representatives from local organizations in the group so they can promote their family friendly events directly.

Des Moines Parent is excited to join forces with this amazing resource. We are happy to point our readers to another place where families can learn and make connections with others in our community. You can now access the group directly via our website, through our mobile app, and from our Facebook page.
