Blank Park Zoo

Winter Safari

December 27 – 29

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This year’s theme is Wild Winter. What do animals do this time of year? Which zoo animals love the winter? Find out ways you can get outside to learn, explore and have fun with ice and snow through lessons, games and nature activities related to the winter season! Camps are for ages 5-6 & 7-9 years.

Des Moines Community Playhouse

Winter Break 2017

December 27 – 28

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Winter Wonderland for grades 1-2: Students will create and explore a realm of snow and ice, where everything is “frozen.” We’ll act out different stories, including The Snow Queen, The Mitten, and others. What will happen to other familiar characters when we transport them to our winter wonderland? We’ll defrost with a hot chocolate party at  the end of the last day. After all, some stories are worth melting for!

Three-Day Play for grades 3-7: Audition, rehearse, and perform a show for family and friends, all within three days, and you’ll still have time to relax before it’s time to go back to school!

DM Young Artists’ Theatre

A DMYAT Winter Break Workshop

December 26-29

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We all know the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but are you familiar with Goatilocks and the Three Hares? Or how about Cinderfella, who lost his glass top hat after meeting the princess of his dreams?

Students in this camp will dream up fairytales of their own and perform them for family and friends at the end of this week-long theatre camp. They will work with a professional teaching staff to learn about writing stories (that include a beginning, middle and end), performance basics (projection, diction, character development) and will even have the opportunity to dabble into the world of design. At the end of Friday’s camp, their families and friends will be invited to the world premiere of their new show!

This camp is perfect for creative students–regardless of their theatre experience! For ages 8 to 14 years; $120 per student.
