Backyard Must-Haves to Keep Kids Busy

We all will be spending a lot of time at home for the next few weeks, but do not let this discourage you to play outside! Whether you are in the backyard or front yard, take advantage of the outdoors with these must-haves. Most of these are great to keep your kids busy for hours without needing you. Need to cook dinner? Fold the laundry? Or just go to the bathroom with no interruption? (I feel ya!) Grab a few or all of these backyard must-haves below.

Art

Art can be expressed in all places. A canvas, notebook, the walls, or outdoors! Grab all your outdoor art supplies including animal shape stencils, good old sidewalk chalk, or our favorite sidewalk paint. We love how bold and fun it always turns out. Maybe your kids need the great outdoors for inspiration. The giant inflatable easel is perfect! Create a masterpiece of the trees, sun, and sky.

I know many of you have seen fun string art pieces. Did you know you can create the same thing outdoors in your very own back yard? The Lawn String Art Kit provides hours of fun and creativity.

Bubble Fun

No outdoor activity is complete without bubbles! You can go as simple as playing with bubble wands, or if you make your own bubble solution you will want some fun bubble wands on hand.

Some times we like to hit the ‘WOW’ factor and the WOWMAZING Giant Bubbles Kit gets everyone all excited. It also includes a great tips and tricks booklet so you can make sure to create the biggest ‘WOW’ bubble.

If your kids are anything like mine, at some point they get tired of blowing the bubbles and beg me to sit there and do it. That is where the awesome bubble machine comes in hand! Remember, there is dinner to prep and laundry to do!

Camp Out

Camp out in the backyard! Whether you create a campout and go inside for bed OR actually sleep in the backyard, this is a fun way to use your imagination. Of course, you always need a reliable tent. We love this tent because it won’t break the bank and it is fun to play inside the tent whether you are indoors or outdoors.

No campout is complete without s’ mores. Maybe you have a fire pit in your backyard and all you need are some trusty roasting sticks. If you do not have a firepit you will want this amazing s’ mores maker that you can use indoors too. I am thinking dead of winter use too!

Explore + Grow

You may be surprised to know all the amazing things there are to explore in your backyard and front yard. Your kids may need some persuasion though! The Kids Outdoor Adventure pack is filled with more than twenty items to look for bugs, fun plants, and more. If the kids do not find their own caterpillar to watch grow and change into a butterfly, you can order our favorite caterpillar kit. This is such a fun and educational activity!

Plant some flowers or veggies and make sure your kids have their own tools to help in the garden. You can also have them start with the very basics of growing herbs in their very own tin. Herbs are bulletproof and your kids will be so satisfied when they begin to see them sprout.

Games

Our family LOVES games. Some of our favorites include Toss & Catch which is perfect for kids to play together. Croquet a fun game for the entire family. Cornhole Toss Game not just for tailgating, but now great for social distancing too! Yardzee is great for young ones learning to count. Jenga our favorite to play indoors and outdoors. Find & Seek Scavenger Hunt Game is a game that can last hours for your kiddos outdoors. Parachute brings back Elementary school memories and should be in everyone’s storage for outdoor fun.

Water Fun

The Summer temperatures in Iowa are no joke! Make sure you are fully prepared with fun water games to cool off. You can go as simple as an inflatable splash pool and fun sprinkler or go all out and get a giant inflatable slide. Either option will help keep you cool.
