Art Terrarium with Kids
Amelia and I enjoyed a fun afternoon in Downtown Des Moines over Spring Break. Big brother went on a couple day adventure with Grandma and Grandpa and we decided to hit up some local places in Downtown Des Moines.
One place that I had been really wanting to check out what Art Terrarium. I was a bit nervous to take my overly interested three year old, being afraid she would break something or destroy all the plants, but she did awesome! The staff was very welcoming.
Art Terrarium offers a wide selection of hearty houseplants, succulents, and cacti. They offer fun events, and actively support independent local artists. A true gem in Des Moines!
When we first entered, Amelia was in awe by all the pretty and unique plants she saw. She loved the colorful little succulents and the ones with small spikes (cacti) which I had to remind her several times not to touch.
The person working helped us pick out the perfect succulents for our terrarium and Amelia was able to put it together on her own (with a little guidance). We picked out three succulents based off where we knew we would be hanging it in our home. We then scooped up each layer and dumped it into our terrarium. While doing each layer the staff person was very knowledgeable and explained the purpose of each layer. Amelia’s favorite part was decorating the inside with colorful gems and seashells.
If you are looking for a unique and fun activity to do with your kids, I highly recommend taking a trip to Art Terrarium. If you are interested in learning more about plants and attending some of their other fun events, check out their event calendar.
