6 Outdoor Scavenger Hunts for Families

Spring is here, the sun is out, but it is definitely ringing a new tune in our world today. Normally this time of year our family would be out exploring all the amazing parks Des Moines has to offer, enjoying meals and drinks on the patio at one of our favorite local restaurants, or spending our weekends on the soccer field. Today, we are social distancing and trying to stay away from one another in hopes to keep our community safe and healthy.

Although we are social distancing it is important for all of us to remember how important is to get outside, breathe the fresh air and soak in some Vitamin D from our beautiful sun. Parks may be out, but hiking trails, bike paths, and walking around our neighborhoods are not.

One activity that keeps my children entertained is scavenger hunts. There is something about crossing off all the boxes on a list that satisfies them. Not only is it satisfying, but is a fun family activity as well! We spent the past weekend exploring a local park and had so much fun searching and discovering new things in nature.

I have created 6 scavenger hunts for you and your family to do around your neighborhood or local trail. Do all 6 of them at once, or spread them out over a few weeks. Spring is here. Things may be different, but Mother Earth knows no different. Get outside and enjoy the beauty!

Scavenger Hunts Include:

  • Nature Scavenger Hunt
  • Alphabet Scavenger Hunt
  • Color Scavenger Hunt
  • Animal Scavenger Hunt
  • Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt
  • Shape Scavenger Hunt

Get creative. Think outside of the box. Ask questions! This can be a fun ‘schooling’ experience.
