5 Reasons to Swim at Goldfish Urbandale Swim School

Water safety is extremely important and honestly, I did not even think about swim lessons for my children until they were about two years old.  Even then, I did not make it a priority, and boy do I regret it. Learning how to swim is one of many important life skills and survival skills! When Goldfish Urbandale Swim School, a premier swim school, came to Des Moines, Iowa I knew I needed to jump on getting my kids in for lessons. Why Goldfish Urbandale Swim School? There are many reasons why they are one of the most popular swim schools in North America offering indoor swim classes. I am sharing my top 5 reasons to start swim lessons at this one-of-a-kind swim school in the Des Moines area.

Trained Instructors + Small Class Sizes

One of the main reasons I procrastinated on swim lessons, is I honestly was nervous trusting someone else with my children in the water. Throw other kids into the mix, I was not certain how the whole thing was going to go. My kids had been swimming every summer but had never received proper instruction.

How will they keep track of all the kids at the same time?”

“What if they get scared?”

Each class at Goldfish Urbandale Swim School is small (4:1 teacher ratio) and most of the time my two kids have had lessons by themselves with the instructor which creates a safe environment. All the instructors are extremely knowledgeable and trained based on the Science of SwimPlay® which is a research-based philosophy. The attention to each of them is awesome! They do not pressure the kids to try something they do not feel comfortable with. Instead, they encourage and cheer them on. Every week Monte and Amelia are so excited to spend 30 minutes in the shiver-free pool with their instructor learning and playing in the water. I also love that they offer year-round swim instruction so they can keep learning all year round.

Builds Confidence

Before the kids started swim lessons not only was my confidence a little low, but Monte and Amelia were nervous as well. Goldfish Urbandale Swim School does an amazing job cheering the swimmers on. They offer ribbons for every goal that is met, give positive feedback regularly with a report card, and the kids have a chance to ring the cowbell when they move up to the next level. Kids of different ages need different assistance, that is why I love how they have a holistic philosophy towards their instruction. Each week the kids look forward to mastering a new skill and showing off what they have learned.

Convenience

Having multiple children in swim lessons can be a lot and I love how Goldfish Urbandale Swim School keeps it simple. They offer several class levels at the same time with weekly lessons and half hour time slot. If your children are in different levels, you are more than likely able to still schedule them at the same time just in different lanes. Not sure you can make class times work? Keep an eye on when they offer jump start clinics at various times during the year such as Spring Break.

One of my other favorite offerings is the showers and private changing rooms. After each swim lesson, my kids take a shower and sometimes change directly into their pajamas for the night. On swim lesson nights I feel so accomplished knocking out swim lessons and showers within 45 minutes! Forget something at home? They have a retail shop stocked with suits, goggles, towels (we have forgotten our several times), and more.

Classes for 4 months to 12 years old

I really wish Goldfish Urbandale Swim School was around when my children were babies. I would have loved to start lessons with them when they were younger. If you do have a baby at home, I highly recommend jumping on this. It may not sound like a priority at that age, but it is so important to start getting them used to the water and teaching the skills early. During baby classes, parents get to swim and the pools are shiver-free 90-degree pools so it’s a fun activity for everyone. As your children grow and you do not need to be in the water anymore, they offer a large pool deck and viewing area for parents to keep an eye on their kiddos as they learn new skills.

Goldfish Swim School Becomes Family

They offer a super family-friendly setting! You will fall in love with the fun environment, vibrant colors, tiki huts, and more. The swim instructor and team members have quickly become like family. Each week the kids are excited to walk in and see everyone. They always welcome us with big smiles and know us by name. The kids love grabbing coloring sheets participating in coloring contests, and grabbing fun goodies and balloons after swim lessons too. The snack bar is awesome after working hard! We always love the fun events they offer for the community too such as weekly family swims.

Swim lessons are important because I want my kids to enjoy water safely. My kids were invited this summer to swim in a friend’s pool and I was not comfortable letting them go because they can’t swim yet. 🙁 They are 3 and 6.
