2015 Earth Day Events for Central Iowa Families

2015 Earth Day Events for Central Iowa Families

If you are looking for a few ideas on how to celebrate Earth Day, look no further. Listed below are three fun ways to celebrate this special day with your family in Central Iowa:

  1. Earth Day in the Junction (Valley Junction) in West Des Moines, IA). This is a celebration that consists of a 5K Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run, Hybrid Mileage Contest, and lots more! If you enjoy any or all of the above, this event is for you!
  1. Earth Day Trash Bash is an event that is not only good for the environment it’s also good for the family. This event has already closed its registration, but that doesn’t mean that your family can’t find a public park or another public place to cleanup – just bring a garbage bag and gloves for everyone. It’s a great way to show your kids how to work together as a family to care for the environment and also the community.
  1. Downtown Earth Day Tour is a fantastic event for the family! This is a collaborative effort that includes the partnership of the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, the Science Center of Iowa & Blank IMAX Dome Theater and The World Food Prize. All three of these locations will be hosting a variety of events and giveaways. These events will take place on Saturday, April 25, from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden will be offering free admission on this day.

Due to the close proximity of these events, your family will be able to utilize The Principal Riverwalk to walk or bike to the next location. Your family can start out at any of the three locations during the Downtown Earth Day Tour and work your way to the next. Since it’s Earth Day, save some gas and walk or bike.
