Zoo Tots – A Great Class for your 2-4 Year Olds

Walrus Craft at Zoo Tots. My Daughter named him Squeaks.

This past weekend I finally had the chance to take my 2 kids to a Zoo Tots Class at the Blank Park Zoo  Zoo tots are classes designed for children ages 2-4 yrs with an accompanying adult.  Each class has a different theme and this week is was Arctic Chill.

Now this wasn’t my kids first time taking classes at the zoo, but it was the first time I have had the chance to take them.  Classes are available during the week and on the weekends, which makes it nice for working parents.  To be honest, I was expecting a larger class size on the weekend, but was happy to find a small class size.  Other than my 2 kids, there were about 6 other kids there.

The first thing the kids were presented with while waiting for all the kids to arrive was a coloring sheet with some Arctic animals on it.  From there a book was read to the class and had a quick interactive activity where kids got to tape pictures to a board matching them to their correct habitat.  After that it was snack time.  I enjoyed the fact that the snack was also a craft and the kids got to put it together.  This time around it was a polar bear face made of cream cheese, raisins, a bagel and banana slices.  The cream cheese was a little messy with my 2 year old, but messy equals fun!  Right?

The last part of the class included a chance to meet a new furry friend.  The kids were introduced to and got a chance to pet Katniss the Ferret.  After that we finished with a Walrus Craft, that both the kids enjoyed putting together.  I didn’t pay too much attention to the clock, but I think the class ended up being 30-45 minutes long, which is about the right length for 2-4 year olds.  After class you can explore the zoo as part of you class fee.

Overall, I would recommend taking a Zoo Tots Class at the Blank Park Zoo.  Especially if your kids love animals!  They also have a Zoo Tots Cooking class available.  For more information click here.
