Wellmark Family Series: Our Experience

Monte and I attended a Wellmark Family Series show at the Civic Center and had a blast. This was Monte’s first experience attending a theater show. I was a bit nervous how well he would behave. He did a great job and I loved how welcoming the theater was to the children.

We attended Brown Bear, Brown Bear & Other Eric Carle Stories. Monte has been reading The Hungry Little Caterpillar in preschool, so I knew he would enjoy this show.

The show began at 1 p.m., but we arrived an hour early to enjoy the Discovery Party. The Discovery Parties are held an hour before every Wellmark Family Series show and consist of demonstrations, music, activities and more. This is a great way to introduce the show your to your children.

The Discovery Party we attended included making puppet caterpillars, live music, touching and petting live animals from the Blank Park Zoo, story time in one of the smaller theaters, singing and dancing. By the time the show began, the kids were worn out and ready to listen. 🙂

The entire theater was full of families and children. The atmosphere was very laid back compared to any other show you may see at the Civic Center. Everyone understood that there were curious and excited children in the audience. The show was only 1 hour long which makes it short and sweet for those wigglers.

I highly recommend attending a Wellmark Family Series show to introduce theater to your young children. It is a great interactive experience for the entire family.

There are still a couple more shows left this season. Check them out here. Also, the 2017-2018 series has been announced, purchase your tickets now!
