Spring Break is the perfect time to take mini vacations! There are so many great places to get away to, that are not too far from Central Iowa. Check out this list! These destinations would also be great to visit any time of the year!

Ultimate Mini

Amana Colonies

Did you know the Amana Colonies has a waterpark?! The Ramada Williamsburg Hotel and Wasserbhan Waterpark is the perfect weekend getaway! It is also super close to Tanger Outlet for shopping, Fireside Winery, and Riverside Casino.

Burlington – FunCity

I had never heard of FunCity until just recently and it sounds A-mazing! FunCity is a theme park and resort that offers activities for all ages. Some activities include: bowling, laser tag, water rides, video games and indoor zipline course! Lots of great packages available!

Council Bluffs

Take a day trip to Council Bluffs and visit the Union Pacific Railroad Museum! If you have train lover on your hands, they will love this trip! They have several exhibits, tours and activities offered. Check it all out!

Dubuque

Dubuque is another great place to take a mini vacay! It’s a beautiful town, full of fun things to do. Take the kiddos to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, which also has a 3D/4D theater! Take a beautiful ride on the Dubuque River. Check out Dubuque River Rides which are available only May through October. Have your children seen the movie, Field of Dreams? Take them to run and explore the field it was filmed on! Explore Crystal Lake Cave, The National Farm Toy Museum, and stay at the Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark.

Honey Creek Resort State Park

Is a popular Iowa getaway! Located on Rathbun Lake, a few hours away from Des Moines, you can rent a cabin or room at Honey Creek Resort. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and all the fun activities they have to offer. Rent a pontoon or fishing boat. You can also do a dinner excursion on a large boat, out on the lake! Go biking, hiking, bird watching and much more. There is so much to offer!

Iowa City

Take a few days and travel a few hours to Iowa City! Iowa City has so much to offer when it comes to dining, shopping and kids activities. You can check out the Iowa Children’s Museum! Spend the day at Coral Ridge Mall skating and shopping. If you are an Iowa Fan, you can take the kids to check out Kinnick Stadium!

Kansas City

Kansas City is such a fun place to visit! You can check out a 4-D cinema , or the Duplo village OR Kingdom Quest all at LEGOland! Visit Sea Life Aquarium, Kansas City Zoo, or Crown Center Kaleidoscope! For the little, little kids check out the Stone Lion Puppet Theatre! Of course, you can always visit Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun! The Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead looks really fun too!

Omaha

If you make a special trip to visit the Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs, you might as well make it a few day trip and stay some days in Omaha! Omaha has a lot to offer too! Check out the amazing Henry Doorly Zoo and Omaha Children’s Museum. You can also check out the Strategic Air & Space Museum for your aspiring astronaut πŸ™‚ There is so much to do. Storm Lake – Kinds Pointe Resort

Need just a couple nights away for swimming, pizza and a change of scenery? Check out Kings Pointe Resort located in Storm Lake, Iowa. They have both indoor AND outdoor waterparks, water playgrounds, lily pads to jump on and so much more. Check out the new attraction, The Fishpipe! Lots of different packages are available!

Twin Cities

The Twin Cities is a great place to take a mini vacation, you could probably spend an entire week if you wanted to! You can check out the Minnesota Children’s MuseumΒ orΒ Twin City Model Railroad Museum. Check out some great zoo’s such as Como Park Zoo in St. Paul or The Minnesota Zoo. Of course, you can shop AND play at the Mall of America! Visit the LEGO store, American Girl Doll store or, my favorite, IKEA! πŸ™‚
