National Night Out in Des Moines 2023

National Night Out in Des Moines happens every year on the first Tuesday evening in August. This annual event is a time when communities come together with local law enforcement to create partnerships, children can learn, and much more. Mark your calendars for August 1st this year.

Altoona National Night Out

Tuesday, August 1; 6 to 8 p.m. 

Sam Wise Youth Complex

Altoona’s National Night Out event for the community members of Altoona has requested superheroes! Bring the family for a good cause and support local businesses and law enforcement while seeing your favorite superheroes.

Beaverdale National Night Out

Tuesday, August 1; 6 to 8 p.m. 

Snookie’s Malt Shop

 Come celebrate our First Responders and enjoy Des Moines’ best ice cream shop!

Chamberlain Park 

Tuesday, August 1; 6:30 to 8 p.m.

2150 Woodland Avenue, Des Moines 

The Woodland Heights Organization will once again host a National Night Out community event.  Join Woodland Heights neighbors as part of this annual event taking place nationwide that strengthens neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Free event. Snacks provided. All ages are welcome! Bring the kids! 

Merle Hay Neighborhood

Tuesday, August 1; 6 to 8 p.m. 

Northwest Community Center

Please join the Merle Hay Neighborhood Association for our annual observance of National Night Out, America’s night out against crime, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1 at the Northwest Community Center, 5110 Franklin Ave. There will be games and crafts for kids, family-friendly entertainment, door prizes, and great tips and information from public safety personnel about how to safeguard you, your loved ones, and your property. Cold refreshments and snacks will be provided!

Polk County Sheriff’s Office

Tuesday, August 1; 5 to 7:30 p.m.; Sensory Friendly: 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM (No Lights or Sirens)

Polk County Sheriff’s Office is hosting our 2nd Annual National Night Out. This nationwide event is the 40th annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Public Safety Day

Tuesday, August 1; 5 to 8 p.m.

Waukee Public Safety Building

Explore Waukee Police Department and Waukee Fire vehicles, test your coordination with fatal vision goggles and jump on inflatables at Public Safety Day. Come hungry! Hot dogs, hamburgers and sweet treats will be provided.

Urbandale

Tuesday, August 1; 5 to 7:30 p.m. 

Urbandale Police Department

Join the Urbandale Police Department for the biggest block party in town as they celebrate community and partnerships to keep all citizens safe! This is a free event for all ages and we assure you, there’s something for everyone. Come see fire trucks, first responders, and talk about safe communities, free food, family fun, and more!
