Meal Planning: Natural Grocers

It’s been awhile since I have added a new review to our Meal Planning series! I got a chance to check out Natural Grocers. Central Iowa is really growing with natural and healthy grocery stores, so I thought a review of this natural grocery store would be helpful.

Natural Grocers is located in Clive on the corner of 86th Street and Hickman. It is right in front of where the old Dahl’s was!

My first impression was that Natural Grocers is nothing compared to Whole Foods or Fresh Market. I felt that Natural Grocers was more of a health store, then a grocery store. They do offer produce and foods, but the amount of vitamins, supplements, health and beauty supplies is a lot more then Whole Foods and Fresh Market.

When you first walk-in, you are greeted with bright, fresh produce! They offer organic produce. The amount of produce offered is small compared to Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Hy-Vee, etc.

What I was amazed with was the amount of vitamins and supplements they offer!

There were two full aisles, like pictured above, full of all sorts of vitamins and supplements. If you are looking for a certain type of vitamin or supplement, I would check here first! They also sell herbs in capsules too!

Another neat edition to the store, I noticed, was at the back end of the store they offer a little library. This area is full of recipe books, health books, specific diet books, and more. These books are for purchase. It is a great resource!

Natural Grocers offers home cleaning supplies and pet products like Whole Foods.

Another thing I noticed, was their beauty supply was very large compared to Whole Foods. They even sold natural hair coloring! They had natural toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, makeup, and more.

Another difference at Natural Grocers is their bulk items. Their bulk items are already pre-packaged in common sizes, so you don’t have to worry about bagging it. This process makes it way more convenient for you!

Natural Grocers also sells Reverse Osmosis water by the jug! With our local water system, this may be something worth looking into and it’s not that expensive either!

A few other notes about Natural Grocers:

  • Make sure to bring your own bags! They do not have any bags, unless you want to purchase a reusable one.
  • They offer classes and events in a special area at the front of the store. Check out their event calendar!
  • They have nutritional health coaches available that are trusted and free. Learn more here!

Overall, I was impressed with Natural Grocers! This will not be where I do my regular grocery shopping trip. This is a great place to check out for some new, healthy option items or for vitamins and supplements!
