Parents can check one thing off their to-do list for next school year: scheduling a sports physical exam for their school-aged children.
On Wednesday, May 10th and Thursday, July 20th, Iowa Ortho and Physio are providing free physical exams from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at their downtown Des Moines clinic, 450 Laurel Street. Free-will donations that are collected will be given to the athletic programs of all participating schools. Each physical will include a musculoskeletal examination, reassessment of old injuries and advice and information on injury prevention. There will also be a display of sports medicine products with free samples available and items that are for purchase.
Physio physical therapist, Codie Roberts, tests range of motion at last year’s event.
Dr. Scott Meyer evaluates an old injury during a physical exam and advises how to avoid reinjuring it.
Please note that a parent or guardian must be present at the time of the physical to provide consent. Pre-registration is encouraged, though walk-ins are also welcome. A free “swag bag” will be given to those who pre-register. Visit https://freesportsphysicals.eventbrite.com.
