JIM MCDONOUGH & HIS ORCHESTRA & SINGERS: “HOLIDAY GRANDE 2016”

Celebrate the holiday season in style with International Steinway Artist, Jim McDonough, joined by his 14-piece professional orchestra and a cast of sensational singers and dancers performing your favorite Christmas music and other all-time favorites. Proceeds benefit Camp Courageous of Iowa, a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities.

A BRAZILAIN 2WINS CHRISTMAS

High energy music group Brazilian 2wins take you on a magical journey through the holiday season. This all ages concert will feature unique concert renditions with tons of special musical guests, full productions, live actors, comedy, dancing and what’s Christmas without, SNOW!

Well known for their unique style of performing and music, everyone from jazz junkies and reggae lovers, to classical aficionados and hip-hop heads, leaves smiling with their own comparisons of who the group sounds like.

LORIE LINE: A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS

 Simple but elegant, Lorie will be playing all of the favorite traditional carols that make her show unique. She will be bring along her cast of characters, including Santa, and a special featured vocalist.

Join Charlie Bucket and four other Golden Ticket winners as they set off on a delicious adventure through Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory with Mr. Wonka himself! With excitement around every turn, Charlie learns the importance of sincerity, kindness and “pure imagination!”

The musical combines elements of both Roald Dahl’s book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the 1971 Gene Wilder movie, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, with newly created material. All of your favorite characters are on the tour: hungry Augustus Gloop, snooty Daddy’s girl Veruca Salt, gum chewer Violet Beauregarde, and TV-loving Mike Teavee. And who could forget the Oompa Loompas!

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER CHRISTMAS

The one you come back for, year after year…join us at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at St. Ambrose Cathedral for an inspiring program of great works and seasonal favorites, all in celebration of the Christmas spirit. Together with chamber orchestra, piano, and soloists, the Des Moines Choral Society will fill the cathedral with the joy of the season!

SCROOGE, JAZZED UP LIKE THE DICKENS

“Scrooge, Jazzed Up Like the Dickens,” is A Christmas Carol told with acting, dancing and singing! You will see amateurs and professionals from around the Central Iowa area in this fun depiction of Scrooge. You will experience a roller coaster of emotions as you watch Ebenezer Scrooge’s past, present and future come to life.

BALLET DES MOINES: THE NUTCRACKER

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is one of the most famous ballets the world has ever known and is the cornerstone of ballet companies around the world. Ballet Des Moines’ adaptation is choreographed by Artistic Director Serkan Usta and Ballet Mistress Lori Grooters. You will be visually delighted by their resident professional company and more than 300 local student dancers.

Ballet Des Moines is central Iowa’s only resident professional ballet company. Under the artistic direction of Serkan Usta, Ballet Des Moines launched its first professional ballet company in 2012, offering additional training opportunities for young dancers and an expanded performance season. Ballet Des Moines exists to enrich lives in the greater Des Moines area by delivering excellence in the performing arts and providing the highest level of dance education in the region.

TONIC SOL-FA HOLIDAY SHOW

Tonic Sol-fa is a ground-breaking a cappella ensemble from Minnesota, in constant development since their formation two decades ago. TSF stands as one of the leading forces in the world of vocal music with Emmy Award winning arrangements and multi-million selling compositions.

Celebrate the holiday season at this popular show. Greg, Jared, and Shaun have arranged a fantastic a cappella show, fun for any age!

JINGLE SING & RING ALONG WITH PIED PIPER STUDIOS

December 17th 

3:45 p.m. 

Woodlands Creek Senior Living

Join Pied Pipers Syudios in spreading good cheer to the residents of Woodlands Creek. Our group of carolers grows each year as we deck the heated hallways singing traditional holiday favorites and bringing enormous smiles to residents and carolers alike. This event is the perfect family-friendly way to celebrate the season. When our voices tire, we’ll end the afternoon snuggling by the fire with a complimentary plate of cookies. Wear a Santa hat or your season’s best dress that sparkles and twirls. Just bring your voices and we’ll provide the bells! We hope you can join us for this festive holiday tradition.

Gather around the lobby fireplace at 3:45pm for distribution of lyric sheets and jingle bells. We’ll begin singing through the hallways promptly at 4:00pm followed by cookies in the lobby.

THE NUTCRACKER

Des Moines Civic Center

Iowa Dance Theatre presents The Nutcracker Ballet. Experience the adventures of a girl named Clara as she journeys to a distant land where a prince battles mischievous mice, flowers waltz and a Sugar Plum Fairy delights children of every age.

Iowa Dance Theatre has produced the ballet at the Des Moines Civic Center since 1997. The Nutcracker is choreographed and directed by a team of dance professionals from Central Iowa. Set to the timeless music of Tchiavosky, Iowa Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker Ballet is a great holiday experience for the whole family.
