Pumpkin Carving at Iowa Arboretum

Thursday, October 15th

5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Test your carving skills and enjoy a hot bowl of chili, a warm piece of cornbread and a cool dessert. The pumpkins will be displayed during the Arboretum’s Halloween events. RSVP: info@iowaarboretum.org or by calling 515.795.3216

Night Eyes at Blank Park Zoo 

October 15th – 18th & October 22nd – 25th

Night Eyes at Blank Park Zoo has become the sweetest Halloween fun in Central Iowa, and this year’s 25th annual event is sure to continue the tradition! Be sure to join us to see all of our magical characters, take a ride on our train and gather as many sweet treats as you can!

Ar”boo”ween Halloween Event at Iowa Arboretum

Saturday, October 17th

1 pm – 3 pm

Put on your favorite super hero, princess or creative costume and join the parade of activities and treats at the Arboretum. Scarecrows and pumpkins will be decorated for the holiday. Enjoy hayrides, the hay maze and games at this fun family Halloween event

Ar”boo”scare at Iowa Arboretum

Saturday, October 17th 

6 pm – 9 pm

As the sun sets over the Iowa Arboretum… the Halloween Ar “Boo” Scare event begins. Darkness, sounds of time past and hidden surprises set the stage for Halloween night. Walk the “No Return Hidden Trail” and ride the “Hayride to the Valley of Darkness.” Bring a flashlight, wear a costume and enjoy the cool night air. Look for carved pumpkins, scare crows and lots of treats and treasures at this night event.

Mysteries of the Castle at Salisbury House

Saturday, October 24th

10 am – 3 pm

A day for families to come and explore. Conservationists, science experiments and fun times galore. Build it kits, face painting, chocolate making and more! Come in your costume and see cool Halloween decor!

Family Halloween at Living History Farms

October 18th, 19th, 23rd – 26th, 30th & 31st 

5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Check out when we visited!

Horse-drawn wagon rides, storytellers, pumpkin bowling, and scarecrow and jack-o-lantern displays delight all during this non-scary family event. Children aged 12 and under can trick or treat through town, and we’ll have free pop and popcorn for all! $4.75/member $6.00/non-member. Ticket required for everyone aged 2 and over. Children under 2 are FREE!

The Great Pumpkin Party at Valley Church

Tuesday, October 20th; 6 pm – 8 pm for special needs 

Wednesday & Thursday, October 21st & 22nd; 6 pm – 8 pm 

Kids wear your costumes! Giant inflatables, pony rides, petting zoo, live entertainment, games, free food and more! All FREE!

Halloween Hoopla at Raccoon River Lodge 

Friday, October 23rd

5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Family-friendly event at Raccoon River Park! Decorate pumpkins, ride on the “Witch’s Wagon” around the lake, skeleton s’mores, and so much more!

Annual Grimes Community Center Halloween Fest

Saturday, October 24th

8th Annual Grimes Halloween Fest at the GCC is back! The gym will be packed with inflatables, activities around the facility, and candy for all at the booths set up. This year, we not only want to see the kids wear their costumes, but encourage the adults to wear their most family friendly costume as well and be open for picture opportunities with others. $3.00 per person OR $10.00 max per family. Ages 2 and under FREE!

Halloween Costume Party with the Yelps 

Saturday, October 24th 

6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Come to a free, all-ages, after-hours Halloween jam at the library, featuring, The Yelps, a rock band comprised of Johnston High School students. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Wear your costume!

Dracula: Changing The World One Bite At a Time

Saturday, October 24th

Iowa Dance Theatre

A comedy ballet of romance and frolicking satire, the work follows the mysterious Count Dracula, as he travels through historic times and places on his quest for true love. Befriended by bats, mischievous creatures, ghouls, zombies, and satyrs, this cast of 70 players tempts Dracula to the dark side. He struggles between good and evil, as he pursues his love, Marie—a symbol of eternal purity and innocence. Marie is surrounded by a protective circle of good fairies but Dracula demonstrates that true love can do no harm.

Costume Weekend at Center Grove Orchard

October 24th & 25th 

Put on your costumes and come to the Farmyard! What better place to go Trick or Treating than at Center Grove Orchard! Our staff will be dressed in their festive costumes, handing out candy at 11 different Trick or Treat locations! Flying Houndz Frizbee dog show will perform as well as all other daily Farmyard activities.

Pumpkin Walk in Valley Junction

Sunday, October 25th 

2 pm – 4 pm

Join the Halloween fun as children show off their costumes and travel through Historic Valley Junction. Join us for this FREE Halloween activity! CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES. TRICK OR TREAT throughout Valley Junction and FREE PUMPKINS at Swander Gazebo, west side of 5th and Maple Streets.

Halloween Hike at Annett Nature Center

October 26th 

6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Put on your brave face and join us for a walk in the dark, but do not worry, this is a merry not scary hike! This year’s theme will be Incredible Insects! Along the torch and jack-o’-lantern lit trail, you will meet a Luna moth, honeybees, ladybug, and dragonfly. The hike will take 90 minutes from start to finish, including a snack and craft in the Annett Nature Center. Groups will leave every 10 minutes from 6:30PM-7:30PM for their guided hike. Adults $3, Kids 12 and under $2. Reservations are required. Register by calling 515-961-6169.

Halloween Hop at Clive Public Library

Friday, October 30th

Come celebrate Halloween at the library with a dance party! We’ll pull out some of our favorite Halloween tunes and your little ones can dance the morning away in a costume of their choice. No registration required.

Trunk or Treat at Bloomfield United Methodist Church

 Scare Us Hill: A Pumpkin Ball at Terrace Hill

October 31st 

6 pm – 10 pm

As the sun sets on Halloween, and ghosts and goblins come out to play, expect the stately manor of Terrace Hill to be transformed for the Scare Us Hill: A Pumpkin Ball. Gilded chandeliers give way to cobwebs and the occasional surprise. And as the lights get turned low the mansion’s true inhabitants will come to life. The night will feature: Wickedly good appetizers & desserts, Costume contest with prizes, Complimentary valet parking*, Music for dancing, Psychics available for bewitching consultations**, Mansion decked out in its Halloween best and more! Purchase tickets online at: ScareUsHill2015.eventbrite.com

Pumpkin Destruction at Center Grove Orchard

October 31st 

Join us for our first-ever Pumpkin Destruction Day! The day will begin with the 3rd annual Pumpkin Relay- a fun 3-mile “off road” course that takes you down the Super Slide, across the Hayride trail and through the Pumpkin Patch… all while holding a pumpkin! The rest of the day’s activities include pumpkin destruction games, pumpkin drop, tractor smash, pumpkin pie eating contest, and much more! A more detailed schedule of events will be posted closer to the date.
