PUMPKIN CARVING AT IOWA ARBORETUM

Thursday, October 13th

5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

AR”BOO”WEEN HALLOWEEN EVENT AT IOWA ARBORETUM

Saturday, October 15th

1 pm – 3 pm

Put on your favorite super hero, princess or creative costume and join the parade of activities and treats at the Arboretum. Scarecrows and pumpkins will be decorated for the holiday. Enjoy hayrides, the hay maze and games at this fun family Halloween event

AR”BOO”SCARE AT IOWA ARBORETUM

Saturday, October 15th

6 pm – 9 pm

As the sun sets over the Iowa Arboretum… the Halloween Ar “Boo” Scare event begins. Darkness, sounds of time past and hidden surprises set the stage for Halloween night. Walk the “No Return Hidden Trail” and ride the “Hayride to the Valley of Darkness.” Bring a flashlight, wear a costume and enjoy the cool night air. Look for carved pumpkins, scare crows and lots of treats and treasures at this night event.

NIGHT EYES AT BLANK PARK ZOO

Night Eyes at Blank Park Zoo has become the sweetest Halloween fun in Central Iowa, and this year’s 25th annual event is sure to continue the tradition! Be sure to join us to see all of our magical characters, take a ride on our train and gather as many sweet treats as you can!

FAMILY HALLOWEEN AT LIVING HISTORY FARMS

Horse-drawn wagon rides, storytellers, pumpkin bowling, and scarecrow and jack-o-lantern displays delight all during this non-scary family event. Children aged 12 and under can trick or treat through town, and we’ll have free pop and popcorn for all! $4.75/member $6.00/non-member. Ticket required for everyone aged 2 and over. Children under 2 are FREE!

THE GREAT PUMPKIN PARTY AT VALLEY CHURCH

HALLOWEEN HOOPLA AT RACCOON RIVER LODGE

Halloween is lurking just around the corner, and this haunted holiday would not be complete without a fun, family-friendly event at Raccoon River Park. Come on out and join the freaky festivities. We will decorate pumpkins and enjoy a ride on the “Witch’s Wagon” around the Lake. You will be treated to Count Dracula’s “blood” while making your own Skeleton S’mores! Be sure to save the date….we’re just dying to see you there. Ages 12+: $6 Ages 2 – 11: $4 under 2 years: FREE. Register by October 7th.

SPIRITS IN THE GARDEN

Saturday & Sunday, October 22nd & 23rd

4 pm – 9 pm 

Scare is in the air as Reiman Gardens’ Spirits in the Gardens event returns. All are welcome to join in the spooky fun by attending in costume. As part of a new, astounding display, see 500 carved pumpkins lit against the evening sky while here. Trick or treat at Reiman Gardens and make crafts. Join us for storytelling by Jerri Heid from the Ames Public Library and more. Come dressed in costume and a bag to collect candy.

6:30 – 9:00 – Jack-O-Lantern walk – 500 Jack-O-Lanterns carved by Reiman Gardens’ volunteers

No preregistration required. Spirits in the Gardens is a free event for all youth under age 18. Regular admission is $8.00 for adults/$7.00 for seniors and free to all members and Iowa State University students with ISU card. In the event of inclement weather, all activities will be moved indoors.

PUMPKIN WALK IN VALLEY JUNCTION

Join the Halloween fun as children show off their costumes and travel through Historic Valley Junction. Join us for this FREE Halloween activity! CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES. TRICK OR TREAT throughout Valley Junction and FREE PUMPKINS at Swander Gazebo, west side of 5th and Maple Streets.

HALLOWEEN HIKE AT ANNETT NATURE CENTER

October 24th 

6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Join Warren County Conservation for our annual Halloween Hike! Trek down the jack o’ lantern lit trail and meet dressed up nature characters along the way. Afterwards, we will enjoy a craft and a snack in the nature center. The event is $2 for children and $3 for adults. Please pre-register by calling (515) 961-6169 and signing up for a time slot. Hikes leave at 6:30, 6:40, 6:50, 7:00, 7:10 and 7:20 pm.

TRICK – OR – TREAT NIGHT at HOMEMAKERS

October 27th 

5 pm – 7 pm 

This a great event that’s enjoyable for parents and kids. Dress up the kids and head to Homemakers for free, family fun. Kids can trick or treat around the store and parents will love the indoor, low-key environment. It’s a great option should the weather be rainy or cold. Plus, you can secretly shop while your kids are collecting candy!

CREEPY CAPERS

October 27th

6 pm – 7:30 pm  

Animals, creatures, princesses, superheroes and other costumed characters are invited to join the fun! Enjoy games, goodies, cookie decorating and marshmallow roasting. This event is for boys and girls ages 2-7. Cost is $7 for residents. Register here!

 

HALLOWEEN HOP AT CLIVE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Celebrate Halloween at the library with a dance party! We’ll pull out some of our favorite Halloween tunes and your costumed little ones can dance the morning away. No registration required.

9th Annual Grimes Halloween Fest at the GCC is back!  The gym will be packed with inflatables, activities around the facility, and candy for all at the booths set up.  This year, we not only want to see the kids wear their costumes, but encourage the adults to wear their most family friendly costume as well and be open for picture opportunities with others. $1.00 per person OR $5.00 MAX per family (Ages 2 and Under are FREE)

MYSTERIES OF THE CASTLE AT SALISBURY HOUSE

DRACULA: CHANGING THE WORLD ONE BITE AT A TIME

Iowa Dance Theatre

A comedy ballet of romance and frolicking satire, the work follows the mysterious Count Dracula, as he travels through historic times and places on his quest for true love. Befriended by bats, mischievous creatures, ghouls, zombies, and satyrs, this cast of 70 players tempts Dracula to the dark side. He struggles between good and evil, as he pursues his love, Marie—a symbol of eternal purity and innocence. Marie is surrounded by a protective circle of good fairies but Dracula demonstrates that true love can do no harm.

COSTUME WEEKEND AT CENTER GROVE ORCHARD

October 29th & 30th 

Put on your costumes and come to the Farmyard! What better place to go Trick or Treating than at Center Grove Orchard! Our staff will be dressed in their festive costumes, handing out candy at 11 different Trick or Treat locations! Flying Houndz Frizbee dog show will perform as well as all other daily Farmyard activities.

 SCARE US HILL: A PUMPKIN BALL AT TERRACE HILL

October 29th 

6 pm – 10 pm

As the sun sets on Halloween, and ghosts and goblins come out to play, expect the stately manor of Terrace Hill to be transformed for the Scare Us Hill Pumpkin Ball. Gilded chandeliers give way to cobwebs and the occasional surprise. And as the lights turn low, the mansion’s true inhabitants will come to life. THE NIGHT WILL FEATURE: Wickedly good appetizers & desserts, Costume contest with prizes, Complimentary valet parking provided by Keck, Music for dancing provided by Opus Taylor, Psychics available for bewitching consultations.

SPOOKY SCIENCE

October 29th 

10 am – 5 pm

Hair-raising experiments, bubbling potions and visual illusions abound during Spooky Science at the Science Center of Iowa! Dust the cobwebs off of your costume and join us on October 29 to trick-or-treat your way throughout the building and experience themed programming!

HALLOWEEN ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS

October 30th 

1 pm – 4 pm

Meet live owls, a turkey vulture, and a red-rat snake! Make owl and bat crafts at the Prairie Learning Center. Pre-register for a 1:00 p.m. program to learn more about owls and vultures. Pre-register for an owl program scheduled at 3:00 p.m. and dissect an owl pellet! Due to space limitations, pre-registration is required for the two scheduled programs.

 

PUMPKIN DESTRUCTION AT CENTER GROVE ORCHARD

November 5th 

 The day will begin with the 3rd annual Pumpkin Relay- a fun 3-mile “off road” course that takes you down the Super Slide, across the Hayride trail and through the Pumpkin Patch… all while holding a pumpkin! The rest of the day’s activities include pumpkin destruction games, pumpkin drop, tractor smash, pumpkin pie eating contest, and much more! A more detailed schedule of events will be posted closer to the date.
