Parents can check one thing off their to-do list for next school year: scheduling a sports physical exam for their school-aged children.
On Wednesday, May 11th and Wednesday, July 20th, Iowa Ortho and Physio are providing free physical exams from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at their downtown Des Moines clinic on 450 Laurel Street.
Free-will donations that are collected will be given to the athletic programs of all participating schools.
Each physical will include a musculoskeletal examination, reassessment of old injuries and advice and information on injury prevention. Athletes have the additional option of taking part in a Fusionetics test, which creates an individualized program based off the participant’s results to correct strength, flexibility and movement imbalances. There will also be a display of sports medicine products with free samples available and items that are for purchase.
Physio physical therapist, Codie Roberts, evaluating an old injury during a physical exam and advising how to avoid reinjuring it.
Refreshments will be provided, and Crash, the Iowa Wild mascot, will make an appearance and be available for pictures.
Iowa Ortho foot and ankle specialist, Dr. Joe Galles, and Crash giving a thumbs up at the end of a successful night during last year’s free physicals event.
Please note that a parent or guardian must be present at the time of the physical to provide consent. Pre-registration is encouraged, though walk-ins are also welcome.
