Fall Festivals in Central Iowa 2016

Fall Festivals

September 

Jester Park Glow Wild 

September 4th 

6 pm – 10 pm 

Come ‘Glow Wild’ with your family on Sunday, September 4th at Jester Park from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Enjoy pony rides, live music, night hikes and a kids’ prairie maze. Learn about bats, owls, and the stars plus children will make their own art and craft activity. Enjoy beverages, food and cook your own s’mores. The evening will cap off with a large bonfire and music by “The Swing Crew”. Admission is $10 per adult or $25 per family and includes: free pony rides; one-drink ticket, lightning bug craft, discovery sessions, and night hikes. Harvest Wagon Rides

September 3, 10, 17, 24

5pm or 7pm

Bring your blanket and enjoy an evening horse and wagon ride this fall at Living History Farms! Guests meet at the Murray Conference Center to board an open-air wagon pulled by Percheron draft horses or draft mules. Take a ride through the fields and country roads of Living History Farms with autumn in the air. After your ride, join other guests for light refreshments and relaxation while watching day change to night at Living History Farms! Advanced tickets are required!

Pufferbilly Days 

September 8th – 11th 

This four-day community festival fills the streets with tons of awesome events and entertainment. Kids games, carnival, fireworks show, pie eating contests, and much more!

Apple Festival at Penoach Winery 

September 17th

12 pm – 5 pm

Horse and wagon rides, face painting and kids entertainment, 12 plus vendors featuring a variety of crafts, food, and produce, including Dallas County Orchard, Picket Fence Creamery. Food from Brewer Family Farms. Free wine samples. Hot apple wine by the cup. Music by Code Blue.

Beaverdale Fall Festival 

September 16th & 17th

Holy Trinity Church had been hosting an annual event each September featuring a raffle, carnival rides, food, talent show, beer tent and a road run. During the 1980s, the Beaverdale merchants and Holy Trinity decided to combine their efforts, leading to an expanded, single weekend of neighborhood fun. The parade became a joint effort of the two groups and served as a rallying point, as they began to unify their resources, advertising and planning efforts. Carnival, parade, games, horse rides, live music, food, drink and much more!

Our Apple & Pumpkin Fest is the name we give to our annual fall harvest celebration. Our farm provides a great place to enjoy Iowa outdoors with family and friends. You can pick pumpkins, go through our corn maze, take a hay wagon ride, check out the barnyard, and enjoy some fresh cider donuts and other great food products. There’s so much more!

World Food & Music Festival

September 16th – 18th

The 2016 Festival will feature Cuisine from Around the World!
Live Entertainment – Cooking Demonstrations. $1 tastes/all entrees $5 or less! Saturday Fireworks. Free to attend

Zooktoberfest at the Blank Park Zoo 

Thursday, September 22nd

5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Fertig Machen! Zoo Brew is back with an Oktoberfest twist! Be part of Zooktoberfest – a mash-up of the popular Zoo Brew and the ever famous Oktoberfest! Come out and enjoy live music, best seasonal beers, Oktoberfest-style food, pretzel necklaces and of course a handful of your Zoo animal friends

Des Moines Oktoberfest!

September 23rd & 24th

GA tickets will be $10/night at the door. Includes commemorative Oktoberfest mug. Bring it back Saturday for $5 admission! RAIN OR SHINE. Plenty of tented bier gardens! Live music, beer, and lots of fun!

Herfst Feest (Harvest Fest)

September 23rd & 24th 

Celebrate all the things fall at Herfst Feest {Harvest Fest} on September 23rd – 24th in downtown Pella! Enjoy Bacon Fest, wine walk, live music, great works of art at Art in the Park, 5K Color Blast Run, shopping, home brew sampling, salsa and baking contests, artisan demonstrations at the Historical Village as well as great activities for children.

Applefest

Saturday, September 24th 

11 am – 4 pm 

Spend the afternoon in our 1875 town celebrating all things apple! Try your hand at stirring the copper kettle of apple butter and take your turn cranking the cider press. Children’s games and crafts round out the fun. Fresh local apples and other goodies will be on sale in the Visitor Center

Illumifest at WDM City School Campus 

Saturday, September 24th

4 pm – 7 pm

A Fall Festival of Light, offers a variety of activities and events for people of all ages! The inflatables and games will open Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm and run throughout the evening, as well as a wide variety of food stands. The “Royal Promenade” around the Pond, featuring Royal characters from Little Princess Parties, takes place from 5:00-7:00 pm. Join us for this family friendly event that has made this festival the fastest growing community event in West Des Monies. Royal Promenade $10. Register by 9/9 for Royal Promenade.

Covered Bridge Festival in Madison County 

October 8th & 9th

Madison County Bridge Festival! Help celebrate the bridges. Crafts, foods, activities, entertainment, antiques, and guided tours of the famous covered bridges! This festival is for everyone!

Deal’s Orchard Fall Festival

October 8th & 9th

Fall Frenzy 

Sunday, October 9th 

1 pm – 3 pm

Bring your family for a day of fall fun! Come explore Walker Johnston Park and all the amenities it has to offer. We will have a scavenger hunt, outdoor games, crafts, and live critters. This event is hosted by Polk County Conservation, UCANN, and Urbandale Parks and Recreation.
