Easter Fun in Central Iowa 2017

Eggs, bunnies and eggs everywhere! There are a ton of opportunities to hunt for eggs this spring and most of them are free of cost. Check out our list below. If you have an event you would like to add, let me know!

FAMILY FLASHLIGHT EASTER EGG HUNT

Friday, April 7th

8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. 

Pickard Recreation Area 

Bring your own flashlight and hunt for eggs! Prizes will be awarded and then enjoy s’mores and hot chocolate around a campfire. Register online here!

ANNUAL EASTER TREASURE HUNT

Saturday, April 8th 

9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at Meredith Drive Reformed Church 

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at The Bridge Campus 

This isn’t your typical Easter egg hunt! Are you looking for a way to share the true message of Easter with your child in an age appropriate way? Each year Meredith Drive Reformed Church and The Bridge Campus hosts the “Easter Treasure Hunt” to do just that! We don’t focus on bunnies and baskets. At the Easter Treasure Hunt you and your child will participate in a unique egg hunt that is unlike any other! Crafts, activities and storytelling make Jesus Christ the main character of Easter! Children will be grouped according to age, preschool-kindergarten and 1-4th graders. There is no need to bring a basket as we will have ready-made treat bags for everyone! For children 4 years to 4th grade.

Join Valley Church and celebrate Easter. The Justice Corps of Iowa will also be there.

Cosponsored by The Heritage Carousel. This free program includes free carousel rides. The egg hunt is, divided into age categories, start at 11:10 am.

EASTER EGG HIKE

Annett Nature Center

Head to the trails for an Easter Egg Hunt, nature style! You can search for eggs & candy and hike all at the same time. There will be a simple egg hunt set up in our butterfly garden. Please pre-register by Wednesday, April 12th.

EASTER EGG HUNT

Centennial Park, Waukee 

Hop on over and fill your basket full of candy at Waukee’s annual Easter Egg Hunt! Enjoy thousands of eggs and pieces of candy at this popular event. Be on the look-out for some special golden eggs! Rain or shine.

EASTER EGG HUNT: PLEASANT HILL

The Pleasant Hill Fire and Parks & Recreation Department’s invite everyone to attend this Easter Hunt located at Doanes Park. This egg hunt is specifically for kids 12 and under.

THE GREAT EGG HUNT!

Giovannetti Community Shelter, Urbandale

Kids (ages 10 and under) fill up your baskets with ALL the candy and eggs they see! Some eggs even have a few special prizes in them. You will want to make sure you arrive early, the hunt starts right at 10 a.m. Free!

EASTER EGG HUNT

Ted Lare Design Build & Garden Center 

Come join us for our annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday April 15th at 10am. The Easter Egg Hunt is for ages 11 and under. The Easter Bunny has told us he will hide over 7000 eggs for the kids to find and he will be around for photos with your children. His helpers will also hand out an additional 500 eggs after the hunt to make sure all children go home with eggs. We hope to see you there!

EASTER EGG HUNT: ANKENY FIRST UNITED CHURCH

Ankeny Summerfest Shelter

The Ankeny First United Church Easter Egg Hunt is free to all ages (up to 4th grade). Last year they distributed over 17,000 Easter eggs. You will not want to miss this hunt!

FAMILY EASTER PARTY

Living History Farms

This is fun for the entire family. The morning includes toy hunts, preschool Bunnyland, live animals, horse and wagon rides, and games! Free pop and popcorn for everyone!

EASTER EGG HUNT 

Saturday, April 15th 

9 a.m. – 10 a.m. 

Colby Park, Windsor Heights 

The Windsor Heights Fire Department will host an Easter Egg Hunt at Colby Park starting at 9 AM. Ages 5 and under will hunt in the tennis courts, ages 6-9 will hunt in the ball fields, and ages 10-12 will hunt in front of the Community Center. Come say hi and get your photo taken with the Easter Bunny and Sparky the fire dog! There will be 7,000 candy and prize-filled eggs. The event will take place rain or shine, so please dress accordingly.

EGGS, EGGS EVERYWHERE!

Western Gateway Park

More than 12,000 candy- and prize-filled eggs, music, and games. The event is completely FREE! Enjoy inflatables, balloon animals, face painting and mmore.

7TH ANNUAL EGG DIVE

Saturday, April 15th

1 pm – 4 pm 

Urbandale Swimming Pool

The Egg Dive will be held during normal open swim hours and the cost will be $5 per person. Children will be divided in age groups to dive for colored eggs in the pool. Each egg will be turned in for a prize!

THE EGG DROP 

Saturday, April 15th 

2 p.m. – 6 p.m. 

National Balloon Classic Balloon Field 

Starting at 4:30 pm, 50,000 Easter Eggs will be dropped from hot-air balloons onto a designated area of the field. Once they have all landed, the kids will be unleashed to gather up as many as they can! The eggs will be filled with candy and prizes. The kids will be divided into three age groups: Toddlers through Preschoolers, Kindergartners through 2nd graders, and 3rd graders through 5th graders.
If the weather is not cooperating, we will have a helicopter on stand-by to drop the eggs!

ADULT EASTER EGG HUNT & SUNDAY TUNES

Sunday, April 16th 

3:30 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. 

Summerset Winery 

Sunday April 16th is our annual Adult Easter Egg Hunt during Sunday Tunes.

The Tony Valdez Trio will be playing from 2:00pm- 5:00pm and the hunt will take place at some point during that time.

The hunt is for ADULTS ONLY and will have an adult theme and adult prizes. The kids are more than welcome to attend Sunday Tunes which is a family friendly environment, but we ask that you do not let them participate in the Adult Easter Egg Hunt.
