Over Memorial Day weekend the kids and I decided to spend the Saturday in Uptown Ankeny. It had been awhile since I visited the old downtown Ankeny area and I was super impressed at what they had to offer.
Our favorite farmers’ market is the Downtown Farmers’ Market, but with it being Memorial Day weekend, I knew it would be jammed pack. The Uptown Farmers’ Market is every Saturday, May 20 through September 30 except for July 8 due to Ankeny Summerfest. It opens at 8 a.m. until noon. and it is held at the Ankeny Market & Pavillion Park.
I enjoyed the variety of vendors including home-made baked goods, breakfast options, hand-made items, plants, produce and much more. The kids enjoyed the fun crafts that were available. The two assistance in charge of the craft table were very friendly and helpful with the kids.
We spent a few hours wandering around the market and took a break for the kids to run and play tag in the green space nearby, while I sipped on some delicious coffee.
The High Trestle Trail comes right through Uptown Ankeny. We decided to follow the trail north and cross over 1st Street to visit the park that had a couple of playgrounds available to play on. There was even a Little Free Library. The playgrounds are located directly behind the Ankeny Fire Department.
It was a great place to burn off some energy.
Firetrucker Brewery is located right by the pavillions. It is a great place to enjoy an adult beverage outside, they offer a bags game, and are open to families to sit back and enjoy weather.
Our original plan was to walk back to Firetrucker Brewery for a local brew and food from Mucky Duck Food Truck. Due to the storms rolling in we decided to head back to the cars. Make sure you check out their event calendar to know what food trucks are stopping by and live music that is performing.
If you are looking for something fun to do this summer, make sure to add a trip to Uptown Ankeny to your list!
